Caladium hybrid A

Next

This caladium has apparently arrived to me piggybacked on some tuber, most likely on Amorph. henryi with which it is sharing the pot. It must be a seedling of one of the popular horticultural varieties, maybe the "White Christmas". It neved did very well, and decided to expire in 1997/98.

These photos quite well illustrate a pronounced change in appearance from juvenile to mature in some aroids.

The first leaf (visible to the right of the whitish one) was unusual: entirely green, with a red spot at the joint of the leaf and its petiole. The second leaf (seen here towards the right) was mostly green wit tiny white spots. The third leaf, also seen here, has plenty of white, but has retained some red (not visible at this scale).
There are the red spots...
For some reasons, this caladium has never had more than two leaves at a time! This one is about a month old.
